(February 27th, 2010 - Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a secluded community in this part of the island of Montreal known as"the West Island. The West Island can be confusing to people unfamiliar of its purpose. They often believe it's an island located that lies west of Montreal However, it is actually a part of the city. West Island encompasses everything between the two cities that are Lachine as well as West. The West Island is frequently referred to as the location of birth of Amanda Brugel but while that is true, her stay in the city was brief. Brugel was raised in Courtice, just outside of Oshawa. Her early ambition was to dance however a rapid growth rate resulted in her outgrowing her dance partners. In a recent interview with the Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels I am 6 feet 1 inches." As I grew older than my male companions, I quit. A lot of dancers go from dancing to acting. As for Bruce, it was her drama teacher who nudged her to go in this direction. Teacher who recommended she try to get a role for school's annual play. She auditioned and was cast in the role of Anne of Green Gables. The show led her to receive a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theatre Program which she graduated with the Bachelor in Fine Arts degree in 2000. In the past 20 years, Brugel's work been seen on both the small and large screen. Her work gained most fame when she was offered the character of Rita on the award-winning TV series The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel is the only Canadian actress in the season 1 and only appeared occasionally.
